    Field binder rings

I wish the rings on this thing were bigger. They barely hold any paper. A friend of mine has another Lochby journal. It’s much thicker than this. I wish you had kept the same size but had larger rings.

    Love this Journal

Great companion to have on the go. The paper is exquisite to use for rough watercolor pictures and all around drawing. Goes with me EVERYWHERE.

    Great item

I like it in every way....................yet if it was just 1/4" to 1/2" taller you could fold a 8 1/2 x 11" paper and fit it in the front and back pockets. It fits now but it's a struggle .

Thanks for the pleasure of using your binder

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

What paper size and standard does it use?

A5 6‑hole refills (5.8" x 8.3"). Compatible with most A5 6‑ring systems (e.g., Filofax‑style A5). Not compatible with U.S. half‑letter (5.5 × 8.5 in) or 3‑ring paper.

Does it come with sheets?

Yes. The Field Binder A5 includes 36 A5 dot‑grid sheets (72 pages) of Tomoe River 68 gsm paper—smooth and fountain‑pen friendly.

How many sheets can it hold?

The 6‑ring mechanism comfortably holds up to about 80 sheets of 68 gsm paper (160 pages front and back). Capacity varies with paper thickness and the inserts you use.

Will it work with fountain pens and wet inks?

The included Tomoe River 68 gsm sheets are fountain‑pen friendly with excellent dry times and minimal bleed.

Does it have pockets?

Yes. There’s a full‑length back pocket for documents or a phone, plus four interior pockets for cards, tools, and accessories—along with an elastic pen loop.

Does it lay flat? Can I fold the cover back?

It lays flat on a desk. We don’t recommend folding the cover back on itself due to the ring mechanism.

How do I open/close the rings?

Use the mechanism’s tabs or levers—don’t pull on the rings. Press both sides to close until you hear a click.

Can left‑handed users write comfortably?

Yes. The binder opens flat, and the integrated writing board helps with edge support.

Is it waterproof?

The Field Binder A5 uses waxed canvas for water resistance (not full waterproofing). Light rain and splashes will bead off; reapply wax over time to maintain water resistance.

Is the ring mechanism replaceable?

The mechanism isn’t user‑replaceable. If you have an issue, contact support for repair or replacement options.
